We will update the web site soon but we wanted to let everyone know right away about this historic B-17 Gathering and the salute to all veterans who flew and maintained this incredible bomber.
More to come....

I remember the Eight B-17s that gathered at Thunder Over Michigan in 2005 - 2010 should be a fantastic show. Looking forward to it!
8)

(And I will go out on a limb and predict that U.S. Naval Aviation will be a major theme in 2011..... )

We are considering that theme for 2011. A few factors will determine if we move forward with that one.
Thanks
Kevin

Does anyone have an accurate listing of the number of currently flyable or airworthy B-17s in North America? I saw that the "Warbird Gallery" website indicates that there are "currently" 11 flying B-17s in the United States, but I am not sure if that is the most up to date count or not.

Looks like I took too long to post!

Well, let's see. This is the airworthy list I came up with:

44-8543 - 'Chuckie' - Vintage Flying Machines, Ft. Worth, Texas
44-83514 - 'Sentimental Journey' - CAF Southern Wing, Mesa, Arizona
44-83546 - 'The Movie Memphis Belle' - David Tallichet estate, Geneseo, New York
44-83563 - 'Fuddy Duddy' - Martin Aviation, John Wayne Airport, California
44-83575 - 'Nine-O-Nine' - Collings Foundation, Stow, Massachusetts
44-85718 - 'Thunderbird' - Lone Star Flight Museum, Galveston, Texas
44-85734 - 'Liberty Belle' - The Liberty Foundation, Tulsa Oklahoma
44-85740 - 'Aluminum Overcast' - EAA Museum, Oshkosh, Wisconsin
44-85829 - 'Yankee Lady' - Yankee Air Museum, Ypsilanti, Michigan

And then there is 44-83872 - 'Texas Raiders' operated by the CAF Gulf Coast Wing in Houston which is scheduled to be back in the air sometime soon.

44-85778 - 'Miss Angela' at the Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm Springs, California, is not airworthy at the moment - I think... (something about a forklift incident?)

Also, 44-83785 - 'Shady Lady' is a static display supposedly maintained in airworthy condition at the Evergreen Aviation Museum, McMinnville, Oregon.

So, there are 9 at the moment, soon to be 10, maybe 11 if Miss Angela is repaired.

Maybe they can invite 'Sally B' and 'Pink Lady' over? Yeah right...

Thanks for letting us know Kevin.

By the way, is there any chance our Harvards could be parked a little further to the north next year? :D I've been a backseater for 3 of the last 4 years and have enjoyed the show immensely. Keep up the great work!

:partyman:

Don, I'm right there with you! I would love to take Chuckie to TOM, nothing would be better for this Michigan transplant than to go "home" in a B-17! It would be awesome if all 3 of the Texas Forts arrived in formation!!

Aw CRAP! Looks like we'll miss this one, as it's the same weekend as the IPMS National Convention..that seems to happen about every other year. At least the 2010 convention is in Phoenix, so we'll get a visit to Pima and AMARC as a consolation.

Looks like a date to write in ink on my calender. It would be hard to get bored with a bunch of B-17s on the same field.
