How many airworthy Sabres?

Two question;
1) What and where is the oldest surviving F-86?
2) Including hulks and gate guards, there seem to be a few hundred 86's that have survived somehow. Are any of these surivors veterans of combat or ace makers?

Looks like the oldest may be 49-1067, on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton

Considering that the last active 86's were pulled from service Bolivian AF in '94, that is quite a service record to pull from. That is a lot of years for a combat aircraft.

Lots of great info out there on the F-86. Would love to see a Sabre Dog fly! Surprising how many F-86's are on poles around the country. We got a few in Pa. Most around Pittsburg area. Im sure Mustangdriver got shots of those.

I like them day glow ANG ones.

Does ANY body have any info on who bought the Sabre at reno or what part of the country it may be going to?

There are the 4 listed above plus these 9. One more I know of is owned by Tom Woods N86F, but am not sure if it has flown in recent years.

Of these 13 Sabres (and maybe a few more eventually), I wonder if we could conceivably get a decent gathering someday of say AT LEAST 6, and hopefully as many as 7 to 10 to show up at one spot such as Thunder Over Michigan or Oshkosh for a future "Gathering of Sabres?"

Or as long as you had at least 4 or 5 in one spot with a sprinkling of other vintage jets, you could have a terrific varied jet warbird gathering......

There are at least 3 that have flown in the past few years located at Chino.

The SA Air Force Museum has an airworthy Canadair Sabre MK6 (Tail number 387)
It has not flown for at least two years though because of funding issues.
It is currently located at Air Force Base Swartkops near Pretoria

I believe that Randy Ball's Sabre-dog is coming along in its restoration. I think it's a "G" model? I'm not up on Sabre models, but he was telling me about it earlier this year. Should be really cool to see!

Hey Rich - that's great news if Randy Ball is continuing to pursue the restoration of his "Sabre Dog." It seemed like the project was sort of dead in the water. The one he has is an F-86L which was the F-86D modified for the "SAGE" air defense computer system back in the mid to late fifties.

Hope we see this one at air shows someday.

Nathan - I AGREE those Orange Day-Glo Marked ANG F-86L's from the late fifties/early sixties are real beauties!

Hope we see an F-86D/L "Sabre Dog" back in the air again one of these days.

Randy's Sabre has been on long term loan to the Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas. It has been an outside fixture for several years.

Any updates on Joe Blow's Sabre? - has it flown yet, what colour scheme is it finished in?
