T-6s at Aviation High School on Long Island, NY

Tue Sep 15, 2009 9:16 pm

I received the following post on my blog regarding T-6s:

"...there are about 4 or 5 parked in Aviation High School in Long Island City (Queens) NY."

Has anyone seen these, have pictures of them or links they can post to them?

???

I've heard they have a real AT-6 ie BC-1A.

I think there are at least two T-6s there. Here's a photo of one of them I found on Flickr:

And another with a couple of them in shot:

There's also a TA-4 there:

I recall seeing at least one of the T-6s there about 10 years ago. Not sure about the other ones.

I did a quick look on Google Maps and could see what looked like three T-6s (two NMF, one black) and an A-4. They are at the northeast corner of 35th Street and 47th Avenue.

 So close to my home and never knew about them! Maybe we can acquire one or three for our museum!

Go to the street view at 4656 35th Street, Long Island, NY for a better look. Looks like two of the T-6s, the A-4, a military Baron, a civil Bonanza and a Cessna with the wings cut off outboard of the struts. Can't see what's inside the hangar though!

Going to E-mail the principal and see what he thinks about the aircraft. I'm sure there probably not willing to just give then up, as well I 'm sure the closer museums,: American Airpower Museum, Warbirds Over Long Island, Berlin Airlift etc. probably have already tried it.

They have three registered North Americans. A SNJ-5, an AT-6F, and an AT-6D. Search Aviation High School.

A little birdie told me...

Could you please put up a post on the thread stating that someone from WIX is already in contact with the School Board about the aircraft and is working on either a trade or out right sale.

After digging around a little on the Web it appears that we have:

T-6G 49-3189, N3142G. This was the natural finish a/c parked next to the green one, but based upon various photos I searched out of Flickr it appears that it MIGHT have been repainted in blue.

SNJ-5, BuNo 84910, N3674F. Apparently the green one.

AT-6F c/n 121-42548, N10434. Apparently the yellow one (USN New York markings) parked behind the Skyhawk.

Any confirmations or contradictions?
