Im curious why they are in such a remote location and so far away from the main base? Just sends chills down my spine!

Well, I tell you what...that B-58 has been sitting there, or right near there, since the mid 60's. I remember going out there on a Spring weekend and climbing over that machine. IIRC, it faces somewhat West. It is NOT the one that I had worked on, so there must have been at least two at Edwards.
I also remember a transit one once, but that story will have to stay untold a few more years.

About two years ago B-52, #008 was moved to the north gate and is on display. I will get some pics and post them when I return home after Reno.
The B-58 and others belong to the Edw Museum. They were susposed to be towed in while I was still on Active Duty there (1991-1995). If I get a chance I will check with the new museum director (Doug Nelson retired several years ago) and see If I can get the current status for you.

i looked on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-58_Hustler and it's got the B-58 at edwards listed as one of 8 survivors, and it says this aircraft is abandoned on the Edwards AFB range and is in poor condition.
now we know that's it's a RARE aircraft worthy of at least not letting it go down hill any more than it already has. any ideas who can do something about her condition

good grief - that is just SAD!! And look at all the BS grief Gary got over the Voodoo - my freakin heck where is the USAF on that Hustler??!! At least they could stab some wheels and tires on it and tow it out of the desert. . . seems like it would have been part of a special project with that funky nose . . . man I love those planes!

found 2 more VERY RARE aircraft. Northrop X-21 !!!!!!
one is at 34°50'12"N 117°44'33"W
the other is at 34°50'12"N 117°44'33"W [on http://wikimapia.org/ ]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_X-21 already knows about them, it list them as;;; Both X-21As ended up in storage at Edwards Air Force Base, California where gradually, they became derelicts, used primarily as photo targets. The remains can still be viewed but no efforts have been made to recover a single example for restoration or display.

I understand everyone's desire to save any a/c we can. However, having worked in the Military (Actual DoD) Museum world for several years, it's not easy to just go out, haul it away and restore it.
At times, you do have great breakthroughs in the red tape. However, those times are soooooo rare. Now, if you were able to draw national attention on a particular a/c that has a very unique impact upon history, then the tape is more easily cut.
Funny. it's easier for a military museum to go to private land and recover a private or former military a/c than it is to touch one that may be on your very base.
I could go into gov. health care at this point but I refrain....

yeah Pogmusic, that's why i said 'out of the weather',, i would like to see them at least inside so they don't go down any more. but it's still sad to see them out like that.

I went by the Museum on Monday while I was at Edwards AFB, but they were closed. I will try back next week on my way to my hanger.
