That has got to be it! They were going for the Dazzle Camouflage but didn't have any PINK in stock so they substituted!!!

I think it is a 'tactical' paint scheme.

A SAM could not get a good lock onto her because of her reduced heat signature via the engine design and an anti-aircraft gunner could not take aim because he would be vomitting too violently once he saw her colors!!!!

So, FWIW, no, the USAF isn't 'evil' - your term, but it is a pity that for the same effort a more credible scheme wasn't applied.

OK, as someone who was based at Alconbury, and flew A-10s, and knows that airplane well, I'll just say it -- that particular paint scheme is evil!

A little bit of history: The nose art is about the only "original" paint I can see on the plane. It depicts the Phoenix, the bird that rose from the ashes. S/N 80-0219 went off the end of the runway in April 1989 and was mortally wounded. A maintenance team rebuilt it as a Battle-Damage trainer (and named it 'Phoenix'). It often sat on our ramp during airshows and public open-houses as a stand-in for an operational aircraft. (That way, nobody had to worrry about damage or tampering...)

For me it has to be a Norseman that shows up at Oshkosh every year.
All over colour is metallic maroon with all inspection panels and fairings metallic gold. Looks like a patchwork quilt
Why the owner would do this scheme I don't know and I apologize to him if he reads this and takes offense but man I just don't get that paint scheme.

So, if the airplane is neglected, the USAF is evil. If the airplane is taken care of, but using an incorrect paint scheme, then the USAF is evil.

(And painting an aircraft on external display isn't 'taking care of it', as has been amply and repeatedly shown here.)

That polkadot scheme was THE BOMB!!! I saw it out at Fort Lewis when they had one out there for maneuvers back in the mid-70's. It was very cool looking. Had my dad make a 1/48 scale model of that version...I think it may still be hanging in the basement of the house.

I built both the grey and green schemes in 1/48th. I thought they made cool models and gave me lots of good experience with the airbrush.

all it needs is some white walls tires, curb feelers and fuzzy dice to hang from the mirrors and it would fit in great in LA, south side you know, where da homies are.......
