NREE-9.12.09 Akron,CO (pics)-I fell in love with a Princess

Sat Sep 12, 2009 11:41 pm

Some shots from the 7th Annual National Radial Engine Exhibition today. Nice little show today...Weather was poor, and crowds were light, but didn't stop me from having a great time!

I had the great privilege of getting acquainted with Princess Elizabeth. She's just as beautiful inside as she is outside! (It is what's on the inside that counts, right?)

Also was honored to meet Mr. Tom Friedkin. Truly one of the kindest and most down-to-earth men I've ever met. He has a great passion for warbirds, and it clearly shows. I was very lucky to speak with him.

Dan Friedkin became ill and unfortunately was unable to participate in the Horsemen routine. Shipley tore it up solo in DT2 and made the most of the poor weather. This shot was from the morning during the Heritage flight practice:

She is a beut.
Watch your head when you unlock the stick.
It took a couple of impacts with the gun sight before I learned.

Do the Horsemen sell that unit patch?

People in jackets! Dang, it was 90 here in Florida today.

Pretty sure they do, you'll have to check ASB.TV

Weather was odd. It's normally in the 80's this time of year here...as was the case the day before and the day after the show, but the day of it didn't even make it to 60.

Wondered if you were out there, dude....it WAS great to see the Princess, first time I ever saw her in one piece (check my thread on the show also)...that T-28 did a helluva routine did'nt it? Get any shots of the F-16/P-51D Demo (we were just arriving and saw them from the highway).....might have to camp that one next year...

Hey Mark- had some shots of the Heritage Flight but they didn't turn out so well. I was using my fiancee's camera... and it was having issues all day.

Hadn't seen photos of her in quite a while! Man, is she a beauty!!! I know it may not be the most practical setup in the world, but I just love how authentic that cockpit is, and I am glad when TFC rerestored her that they took the jump seat out. The owners can do whatever they want to with their a/c, but that's the way I'd have mine...correction...WILL HAVE MINE!!!
