This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

BDK, Yes the Enforcer is still there. It is up on the hill in the storage area. When I was there they had the mockup for the F-20 Tigershark in the hanger and the HiMat which we were in the process of restoring when 911 happened and that came to an end. They also had a 1/3 scale B-1 bomber used for radar testing. The XF-94, Piasecki-H21 helicopter, staff cars, test sleds, etc. It was a wonderful place. The P-48 had been sanded down and was ready for paint. Budget and 911 stalled the project. Doug Nelson use to be the head honcho out there. I have heard he retired. I think they had a problem with where to display this plane too. So it sat there. I don't know the latest but suspect it looks the same as it does right now.

There is an old runway (closed) south of the South Base at
34 53 10.62 N 117 52 05.11 W
At the SE end of the runway there is a B-66, C-123 and a C-119.
What's the story on them, if anyone knows?

Don't know if it's the same one, but we had a B-66 that was assigned to
the Naval Parachute Testing Facility @ El Centro. They did not have
an Egress Shop there, so I got to go TDY a couple of times. That aircraft
did fly up to Edwards on occasion.
I just now looked at my slide of it for a number, but only shot the front part of the aircraft to catch a friend who was walking by at the time, sorry.
Never noticed before that it has what looks like a speed brake underneath.
That correct?

Yes,
The B-66 speed brake was on the bottom of the fuselage aft of the wing, about where the vertical stabilizer begins. It was about 3 ft wide and about 7 ft long.
Was the plane you are talking about a Navy plane? If so, it was an A3D Skywarrior.

did anyone notice these:
34 48' 57.45N 117 51'49.99W Poor Hustler
couple BUFFS @:
34 49' 08.33N 117 51' 07.06W
Can anyone give the general location coordinates for where all the B-29's were clumped together like where they got FIFI.
Thanks.

Nope, it said USAF on the side, just wish now that I'd gotten the tail number.

I noticed what has to be a Rutan design. Is that the ARES?

So what is in the cans behind that plane?

Does anyone know what the story on the Hustler is?

i can't find it any more, but there is what looked like a B-47 out there about in the same shape the Hustler is.
edit::: i found it, and it wasn't a b-47 it's a B-52 [and peices of another]and it's just down the road, east, of that B-58 , just on the south edge of the dry lake.

I'll stick my neck out here and take a guess that the B-58 might be 50662 and the B-52 might be either 003 or 008, both of which were mother ships for the X-15 & Lunar Lifting Bodies. 008 was not retired until recently.
The B-58 was kept @ Edwards in the 60's as chase for the XB-70 and flew frequently.

if that's them. don't they need to be in the museum they are planning there, or a museum some where.

hey viking73
i have not seen those post, THANKS for the link.
SO. what is the air force going to do with them. if anybody but the air force let them get in that condition, the air force would take them back.
not really trying to cast any stones here, but that Hustler is now a REALLY rare air plane.

Wow. What a darn shame on how those airplanes have turned out. Sadly, the cost to move them would be prohibitive, even IF they were allowed to be sold, donated, etc.
