Revell H-19

Digging through my old boxes looking for something for my 11yr old to build, I came on a Revell H-19 Rescue Chopper kit. It is missing instructions. Anyone out there have a scan of that they could shoot me? I am debating weather or not to let him try it as it is a bit more advanced and apparently a collectors item, I am seeing prices of $25-125 for the kit. Unfortunatley no box with it, damp damaged years ago!
Also came up with a Hornet +3 Apollo 11 Kit. Might let him take a whack at it as it is a bit simpler build and actually is in it's original box though the decals are a bit yellowed from contact with the box.

I believe they have re-released it recently, so you might look at revells site, as well as revell germany site. I would not touch the Hornet kit......

The new kit is 1/72, the old one is 1/48 (1/49) and all together different.

Having flown in the Chickasaw in Korea, I bought a model about 7 years ago and never put it together. Since the move from NJ to OH, it's in a box somewhere. Not to sure of the manufacturer, but will do some digging tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

That would be great. No hurry, it looks beyond what my 11 yr old can handle at the moment, so I will back shelf that until he gets a few more kits under his belt!

Sorry but the modle of the H-19B is made by Italeri and is a 1:72. If that would help let me know.

Yup, that newer release 1/72 scale is the only one I have been able to come up with. quite a bit different from the old 1/49th kit in the way the kit goes together. I haven't done a lot of modeling in a LONG time, but my 11yr old is getting into it, so I am, by proxy, getting back into it! Don't know if I trust him with sharp knives, paint, thinner, glue and all that stuff quite yet! :shock:

Do my "building" on the computer these days, a lot less fumes and mess! :wink:

Far too many years ago, MAD Magazine did an article on 'models for idiot kids' or some such. Included was a REVELL H-19 kit all laid out with strings attached to each part of the kit and routed thru a handle with an eye in it, the idiot kid just pulled the end of the string and all the parts came together and built the kit for him, no glue, no busted parts.

Or, you could use the kit as an adventure in using your noodle and your sons and reason out where things go and how, as I recall the kit is pretty danged basic (having built my first one molded in bright blue as about an 8 year old, when the box art showed three guys in a rubber raft and the tail of an O.D. B-17 poking out of the water) so GOOGLE some images of an S-55 and logic it out. You'll also need to ballast it some as it's tail heavy

Craig59 got me a copy of the plans, thanks again! I think we will put this one off until my son has a few more kits under his belt! It has a fair # of pieces including numerous clear bits....and you KNOW how those can be!!!!! There is an F-86 in 1/48 that looks like an easier build that will look good next to the ol Mig-15 on the shelf!

Actually, the box art you describe with a sinking wartime camo B-17 is the Aurora kit, not the Revell.
It's labeled as "Sikorsky S-55 Windmill"....probably to avoid the whole H-19/HO4S/HRS (USAF/USN/USMC, respectively) issue.

It, like the Revell USAF kit, had floats...the Revell HRS was in bright blue with Marine markings and the Army was in OD. Revell also produced an Antarctic orange Navy version as well.

This kit is the silver with yellow rescue markings and floats. It can be built with wheels as an option.
