This past Monday 8/24/2009 Charles M. McCorkle passed away at age 94. For those of you who do not know, the color scheme that is on The Collings Foundation P-51C is the scheme of the P-51B that Charles flew during the war.

We were really hoping to have him meet up with his old aircraft later this season when the aircraft comes to New England. We missed him by just a few weeks last year as we had left New England when he moved here from CA.

Sandy was actually Chief of Staff - Guided Missles Division -SAC, and my father was his deputy in 1958 at the Pentagon. He loved McCorkle but hated Pentagon/Capital Hill politcs. This was 'back in the dya' when the Navy and USAF were piching Talos versus Army Nike/Zeus as SAMs for the 60's

Two fighter aces pitching USN Guided missles for SAC, on Capital Hill? Who wudda thunk it?
