I finished Robby several years ago right after the kit was released.

I started the B-9 Lost in Space robot right after it was released by Polar lights, but got tired of sanding the seams, esp those on the arms, so it went back into the box. I dug it out, looked at the arms and decieded to cut them back to the retracted length, and I modified one of the claws to be closed to match the other. I also shortened the stem that supports the dome so it looked more like real robot.

R2D2 is a old MPC from the 70s, all the moving stuff has been glued except for the tilting on the feet and the center leg, which is retractable, and the head, it has had all the panels closed, and it was painted instead of using the deacal.

Matt,

If you ever get the chance to visit Paul Allen's Science Fiction museum in Seattle, you'll get a kick out of a life-size exhibit featuring these very robots (the actual props from the movies/tv), and they are set up in such a way that they have a very funny conversation when you activate the exhibit.

What is interesting is that 2 of the most famous robots, Robby and B-9, were both created by the same guy, and both appeared in several shows together.

for the lost in space bot why not try flexible drinking straws for his arms?? just cut off the flex part if it will fit the model scale, they should extend with ease.

the arms are about 3/8 in diameter, that would be one big straw ( for the gals that can suck start a T-6 ? )
I had considered finding a fine wire spring, but cutting them works just as well.

Those are great!
I do most of my modelling in non-airplane form, so it's cool to see that sort of thing.

how about corregated wire covering?? that might get you closer to scale.

The corregations are very fine, like a -32 or finer pitch, the closest would be a fine wire spring.

Newest Robot, ops, Droid,

This is the Battle Droid, from the AMT Battle Droid with S.T.A.P. transporter, I did not want to build the STAP, so I did the droid in about 3 hours total, it was a true slap and paint, no filler and just a little sanding. I might give it a coat of Future and then highlight some of the panel lines. That is all the robots in my stash except for a C3PO, but he is going to stay there, I don't feel like dealing with all that gold finish, and another R2D2, but he is going to stay there as well.

Careful, they can be addictive. The desire for more and bigger just doesn't go away.

And no robot collection is complete until you have some drones.

I would love to do the Drones from Silent Running, where did you get those, And how about some more pics of the Battleship ? is that BB-39 or ?

K-9 would be a good kit as well.

And the lesser known sister, Penelope.

My daughter had to have one.

Ya' got me on the K-9 though. Oh, never watched Doctor Who.

The small drones were included in a kit I produced a few years back

Image

There are larger kits of the drones out there, I picked a couple up at a model show once.

And that battleship suh, would be the U.S.S. Texas, BB-35 1/96 scale with lights, smoke, and sound system.

Press the .www button and there will be some more pictures of the TEXAS

Did you ever see the making of Silent Running ? They found amputees, or those with birth defects to play the drones, and fit each drone costume to each actor.
A little trivia about Silent Running, The name of the ship, the Valley Forge, was taken from the name of the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge, on which the movie was filmed before the carrier was scrapped.

I looked at your web site, I should not be posting my model pictures in the presence of a master..................
