Red Flag memories in Wendover, Utah

Fri Oct 31, 2008 12:01 am

This is just a bit of the art work on the walls in the NCO mess hall here in Wendover - I know about the 19th SF but anyone here know a little more about these other units?

Thanks,

Tom P.

The 8th FS (the blue square with the yellow patch) used to be the F-117 training unit at Holloman. Dunno what they're doing now that the 117 is gone...they may be a F-22 unit now.

The 429 TFS (patch on the bottom left) was a 111 unit at Nellis at the time, later moved to Mountain Home AFB in the 90s as an EF-111 unit (429 ECS). The squadron is retired the last I'd heard.

The top left shield looks like the Arkansas Guard flying the C-130 at Little Rock AFB or one of its sub-units. The top center might be the Delaware Guard also flying the C-130, but I lost resolution when I tried to zoom in the confirm the unit numbers.

Thanks guys! I'll see if I can get a better picture. . . It would be cool to find someone who was here at that time.

Here are a few more of the early 1980's unit stationed in Wendover. These insignia are painted in the "Enola Gay" B-29 hangar.

If anybody here knows someone in the 1st FW who would be interested in high res copies for squadron histories let me know.
