I don't know how far the rumor goes, but it is a rumor of taking one of the B-17's that is on outdoor display and sending it to the NASM. This is indeed one of the aircraft mentioned here before. But I don't know if it is just rumor, or if there is really much behind that.

Are any of the Belle's crew still alive? It would be nice to see if one or more are still alive, for them to see their old ship again.

None of the warbond tour crew are still with us. I am not sure about any of the other few crewmembers that are still around. My great uncle flew in the same bombgroup with it, and a few times was in formation with it. he told me, "It doesn't matter if the Belle was first to 25 or not. Alot of times they threw old Morgan up there to lead the group, and that was the plane that the Germans would aim for. That is the one that had the best navigator in it. THe Belle and the crew deserve any fame it gets because it was almost always right up front and in the action." I tend not to argue with him.
