Another Walter Soplata thread (updates??)

Wed Aug 19, 2009 6:23 pm

I'm looking for a list of aircraft that have left "Walter's Warbird Sanctuary" and what their current states of condition are?

Thanks

Shay

Wow!! No bites? Here are the few off the top of my head.

1. #57 F2G Corsair - restored and flying with Bob Odegard in North Dakota(?)

2. #74 F2G Corsair - in ND under restoration to static by B.O. for the Crawford Museum in Cleveland.

3. FG-1D Corsair BuNo. 88026 - ??????????????

4. B-25J "Wild Cargo" - Restored and flying with the Fighter Factory in VA.

5. NACA F-82 - under restoration in MN for Tom Reilly

Is that all and is the information I have correct?

Thanks

Shay

Shay;
Just a correction on your list.
FG-2 #74 was never part of Walter's collection. It had bounced around warbird owners for many years, including Walt Olrich, Harry Doan and others.
The fairly complete F-82 is also gone from Walter's and is in Anoka under restoration.

Race 74 was Walt's it was 57 which wasn't... right idea though. I also recall that a BT-13 was the first of Walt's aircraft to return to flight as well... in Canada?

The FG-1D went to the 57 Chevy parts guy out on the West Coast... name fails me at the moment, but he also has an F4U-4.

Cheers,
Richard

(OK, before this gets any more confusing...)

Tom Reilly is leading the restoration on XP-82 44-83887. This restoration is taking place in Douglas, GA. As far as I know, 44-83887 was never operated by NACA. The only other XP-82, 44-83886, was operated as NACA-14, but was ultimately salvaged at Langley AFB.

The F-82E/EF-82E being restored by C&P in Anoka, MN, is 46-255. NACA operated it as NACA-133.

Reilly...Georgia...Merlin motors

C&P...Minnesota...Allison motors

Randy.., flip the view and look under the far treeline across from the C-82. I think that is a thunderjet?

That is funny seeing your post.., I almost did the same thing.., but had too much stuff to do at the office today! Almost did a 'SnagIt' screencapture and notate all the aircraft.

Thanks again!

Race 74 is being restored to flight by Bob Odegard for a private owner. The Crawfoed Musem sold it a year or two back. It should be at Reno in 2010.

Walter's old BT-13A (USAAF 41-9642) is still in storage at my shop. A complete NOS exhaust system for it just showed up in the mail a few weeks ago.
