This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Evan, where and when did you see N640?
I saw it at Half Moon Bay a couple of weeks ago.

"Real airplanes have round engines." I'm just curious - are you implying that Spitfires are not "real" airplanes?
I'm just poking fun...and I'm probably not even being original about it. Others have probably already poked at you for that one. In any case, I do appreciate the sentiment.

Crappy picture, taken through a car windshield, but I'm pretty sure I just saw Nine-O-Nine on her way to Akron!:
Edit: Not warbirds by a long shot, but I did some interesting stuff at KCMH yesterday:
"Shamu"
A little Piper Tomahawk waiting behind one of Southwest's 737's to take off.

Causes less congestion than taxiing them along the 14 freeway

Used to they used the flight as a combination ferry & test flight, so it usually ended up taking over an hour to get the short distance between Palmdale and Edwards. I don't know if they're still doing that though with the changes in certain things in recent years.

Yeah, I know, showing my age but I recall when after you cleared the Tehachapi junction, you wouldn't pass 50 cars until nearly Bakersfield

OH, Yeah, cool, overcast day in the low 60's but as I left the house to go to work two enterprizing folks were out in the very nice (cover your ears Jeff) N2S in yellow based @ KPAE-nice to hear that little Continental radial purring away.

Wednesday morning, as we were doing our pre-take-off run-up in the Seneca in which I'm doing my multi training, a T-28C came into KBUY and taxiied over to the prop shop (H&H).
I spent 10 years working for the engine OH & general mx shop that was associated with that prop shop. All the time I was there, they had a cropped T-28C prop mounted on the wall. They couldn't sell it supposedly because the C models, intended for carrier quals, were so much more rare than the A and B models and nobody wanted a cropped prop (for greater "ground" clearance on the carrier.)
Now, it seems as if every T-28 I see is a C model. Go figure.

A number of years ago I was asked to go into DFW with a Very Important Package for the FBO owner we rented hangar space from. When we got ready to leave we did our runup (172RG) parked behind/under a DC-10. I've never felt so "inadequate" in all my life. There were a bunch of AA airplanes parked in the penalty box with us because of ATC delays elsewhere, and one of them told us he wished he were flying our airplane instead of his gravel truck 727. It was actually kind of fun in a strange sort of way. (Except for feeling like we were going to be trampled underfoot by a herd of elephants.)
