Wow! Thank you all for the kind words. Oshkosh was a blast and we were so excited to bring home an award. We were very well received and by the end of the week there was a mud silhouette where the L-5 was parked from all the people coming over to take a look. It's an experience I will never forget. Next up Reno, Midland, and Sun-N-Fun!

Great pics Al! I enjoyed meeting all you WIXers at Osh.

You're taking it to Reno, Taylor? Did the Rolls Royce folks invite you to show the L-5 there?

From what I have seen it was the "Grand Champion"....
Even though I wasn't there, from the pics that everyone has posted (and the ones Taylor included on his postings), it is unbelievable. The attention to detail and the work put into this beauty make it a show stopper. Congratulations on a job well done and a beauty that you can be proud of for years.
Man....that thing is saaweeet!!!!!! Best of luck at Reno!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Steve! We tried our best to bring 45-35050 back to stock and I think we accomplished that goal. Everything that was in her at the factory is in her today, and more! Flare gun, flares, radios, parachute, flight reports, first aid kit and all original items, camera, mics, etc. etc. It was so much fun hunting down all these items for the L-5. I love the L-5G because there is so much room for detail and accessories. We wet-sanded all parts and re-stamped them with the part numbers and inspection stamps where we found them (note the part no and insp. stamp on the door fairing in the first cockpit photo). Thanks for the interest!

Heartiest congratulations Taylor! I'm glad you are going to bring the L-5 to Midland for the CAF Show as it will be a center-piece for much publicity. I'll see if I can get your friends the twin Miss Airsho's of 07 to come visit you then.

And kudos to your dad, Gordon, who helped out with some seed money and by driving those five hundred pounds of radio gear from Texas so you could fly up in a much lighter airplane. I'm sure he is bursting with pride.

Best always,

Bill Coombes

Can you disclose the source of your flares?

Sorry to be ignorant, what did you do to the radios to keep authenticity but update to current standards?

BDK: I just constantly checked www.gunbroker.com and searched "flare". They eventually showed up there. Those are the flare that were used in the M2 brass gun, but the majority of WWII birds used the 37mm? M8 gun.

sdennison: I'll try to hunt down some photos of my modern radio installation but this is basically how we did it. I wanted an aircraft that I could fly into my highly congested home base airport so I needed a Comm, Transponder, Encoder etc. However, I wanted these items to be easily removable so the aircraft would return to stock original condition. Our solution was to use a dagger pin style bracket located underneath the original panel, on the firewall. The male portion slipped into a female bracket on our radio package. That held the rear of the radio packing in place. Then two Adel clamps with two screws held in the front portion, in line with, and directly under the original inst panel. We rigged it up so all power rand thru one cannon plug and the two antennas plugged into two coax connectors. Therefore, two screws, a cannon plug, and two coaxes are all that need to be removed to make the plane original. This explanation may be confusing, but it's hard to explain without photos. I'll find some.
