The P-82 in my opinion is pretty rough still. I do not believe it was airworthy except a prop. The interior is really rough on it. I was surprised because I had heard for years that it was almost airworthy, that a prop was the last thing needed. I can tell you for certain that it is not the case.

No, the P-82 was undergoing a restoration when the NMUSAF stopped it in it's tracks. did you not see the center section of the wing? IT is restored. The rest of the airplane is not.

Yeah I saw it. Last I saw it is untouched just as it came from Texas. If I remember correct it is in Zinc? or NM? It has been a few weeks.

Yup, yellow zinc chromate. But my point is that, of course the fuselages and wings are rough...they haven't been restored. And remember, in the time frame that the airplane was flying, it wasn't uncommon at all to fly around unrestored Warbirds...just throw paint on them (and usually naugahide interior) and go fly.

It makes me sad when I think of all of the tiny Naugas that were scarificed for the early warbird restorations... :(

The plane sat outside for quite a bit while it was here in San Diego at Gillespie Field.

Saw it while attending and airshow and noticed how nice it was that everyone let their kids crawl all over it!

No tiny Naugas were harmed, it was only the mature fat Naugas that were used...
