Not yet, anyway

Or even ever for that matter, but let's not let facts stand in the way of a good story.

[quote="TrianglePThis must be why the Air Force cuts up their B-52s at AMARC in Tucson. I guess a 50 year old B-52H is still young?[/quote]

Nope, it is because they need the spare parts.......and to make sure no one like the CAF will try to restore and fly one. The Soviets will sell thier heavy transports, but the US Govt will not trust anyone with thier surplus C-141s.

I don't know why that struck my funny bone so sharply, but it sure did. I started by spitting a homebrew all over my computer, then liked to fall out of my chair laughing. Mudge, you are hereby forgiven, that was the best laugh I've had in a while and I needed it. Thanks for the photos, too (same goes for the guy who came in afterward and made you look bad :P ). It's good to know the fat lady hasn't yet sung.....

PS: I don't know about anyone else, but I think it's okay for some of us to vent a little about those stickers. Makes us feel just a little bit better, and causes no real injury.

Hey "Mudge the tourist". The reason your photos are dark is because "Betty Jo" is parked under the big tail of 52-1066, the C-124 that I used to crew out of Dover AFB.

our great elected officials made deals with the soviet union way back when and if we destroyed B-52s (verifiable by sat recon) they in turn would destroy some of their war machines (usually AN2 colts and other strategic bi-planes)

Thanks for letting everyone know that things have changed at the NMUSAF as far as not cutting spars and trying to return them as close as possible to operational, even when they will remain static. I think that's great, and how something should be preserved, no matter if it's going to be static, or flying.

Nothing is being done with the P-82 until everything is settled. But atleast she is inside. How long was she outside in Texas for before finally getting a spot in the hangar?

Alot less time than a certain F-82 at a airforce base in Texas, that is sharing the sun with a P-51H, and a RP-63, among others...............

I don't recall ever seeing the P-82 sitting outside for any length of time after it flew. That includes not just Midland, but Harlingen as well. My understanding is that it was close to being airworthy again, only needing props being the major problem.

I think that most people believe the P-82 just sat outside in Midland, since the only time they saw it (or pictures of it) was during Airsho, when all of the airplanes were placed outside. Now, while the CAF did indeed neglect many airplanes at Midland, the P-82 was not one of them.
