Mustang Lecture

If you are in Melbourne, Australia in late August this will be a must attend event. The Friends of the RAAF Museum are presenting the inaugural George Merz Memorial Lecture on Friday evening, August 28th commencing at 7.30pm for 8.00pm. The subject is the history of the P51 Mustang and the venue is the Officers Mess Ante Room at RAAF Base Laverton.

The lecture consists of a three part illustrated presentation plus 2 keynote speakers; Mr. Bob Eastgate who will be talking about the recovery of his Mustang VH-BOB from Jerilderie in 1972. This presentation will be accompanied by rare movie film of the recovery. The other speaker is Mr. Geoff Goodall who led the 1966 expedition to Emu Claypan the inspect the Mustangs used as targets for the British atom bomb tests in the early 1950's. As an added attraction the bar will be open prior to and after the lecture.

Bookings are essential and all intending to attend must register their names at secretary@form.asn.au It is recommended that you carry photo ID on the night to ease your passage through base security.

The lecture is dedicated to the memory of George Merz who was the first Australian airman to die in combat in 1915.

No we do not intend to video the lecture. The most we will do are some still shots for the Friends of the RAAF Museum Journal; Aerogram.
