Back and forth across the Mississippi River:

Had the pleasure recently, of meeting fellow WIXer John Bell - Hi-ya, John!- who was kind enough to show me the F-84 on the park across from his house, and also showed me his weapon carriers and his friend's fire engines.

He also pointed me to the Cobra in Collinsville, IL and the F-101 in Florissant, MO

Thank you, John!

So, here they are:

Hi Tulio,
Great pics! If anyone here wants a free lunch, invite Tulio over.
I told Tulio the story of when the Army delivered the F-84.
It was about 40yrs. ago and Jr. High School was just letting out. A horrendous racket caught our attention just as a huge Sikorsky Skycrane appeared over the top of the school, jet dangling underneath, barely clearing the roof.
Everyone chased it a few blocks over to the park, where the jet and copter settled in to a ball diamond, dust rising skyward. Man! I can still picture it my mind. What a sight for a young aviation enthusiast.
That evening the poor jet was the new playground for dozens of grease covered kids. I knew better than to go home looking like that, "Mom" would have killed me! Depending on where all the weight was, the jet rocked back and forth like a "teeter totter".
It sat on the ground for a long time, but was vandalized so much they finally got it up off the ground. Anyone wish to donate a nice canopy?..............John

Now THAT's a Warbird that would be fun / nice / awesome (take your pick) to restore and FLY!

Can you imagine the spectacle of firing up two J-57's and lighting off the afterburners for a take-off roll in front of an airshow crowd?

And it already has a back seat for giving rides....
