Ahhhhhh the old RG 111 section. I use to work as an editor for World War Two magazine and Vietnam Magazine. Spent many an hour looking through that record group. There are soooo many unpublished photos there. Great images!!!

Thanks for posting those pics of the Bucker BU-181 Bestmann ! I was just looking at the only airworthy one in the U.S when it made it's fuel stop here last week. It is at Oshkosh now. It was painted in yellow Swiss markings and I wondered how it would have looked in the Luftwaffe wartime paint.
The airplane looks like it would be a real joy to do aerobatics in. Especially snap rolls!

Notice the painted house and trees on the hangar. Can't remember which flugplatz it is, it's in a book around here some were!

This is Bf 109G-6 WNr 160756 of 3./JG 4, piloted by Uffz. Rene Darbois as he defected to the Allies on 25 July 1944. This aircraft currently resides in the NASM in the markings of "white 2" from 7./JG 27... I asked the late Tom Dietz about the possibility of repainting the aircraft at some point in the future when I shot my walkaround photos for my second book, and he said he'd like to but there were lots of other projects in the pipeline ahead of that, so I wouldn't plan on seeing her in her original colors anytime soon.

Thanks for the excellent photos- a couple I hadn't seen before, I'll be sending you a PM with a request for bigger versions shortly. :)

Cheers!

Lynn

Q on #11
Probably easiest and fastest way to make them un-flyable?

Awesome pics by the way. Thanks for finding and sharing.

Eric

It WAS the easiest way to render unserviceable. Later, a friend once told me he had the dubious honor of driving a dozer down a line of parked aircraft and knocking their tails off.
