Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of my now one-year-old website, www.hrs-helicopter.com, is the many Marine veterans I have had the pleasure of 'meeting' online and the many fantastic photographs, memorabilia, and stories they have shared with me.

Guys like HRS pilot LtCol Lud "Ziggy" Tucker who led a daring rescue flight on Mount San Gorgonio in December 1952. (We lost Ziggy three weeks ago on July 4th.) Or HMR(L)-363 Crew Chief Bunnie McCosar who survived the crash of his HRS following a mechanical malfunction and autorotation. And Dick Goode and Carl Shrick, both veterans who served with HMR-161 in Korea. My latest friend is HMR-261 veteran Sgt. Alex Berlin who worked in the radio shop at Cherry Point from 1951 to 1953. He was kind enough to copy some two dozen Kodachrome slides he took during that time and I present a few here. Many more can be seen on the latest update on the website. Enjoy!

An HRS-1 flies above the Cherry Point flightline circa 1952. Lots of neat planes on the ramp including R4Q's, R4D, F9F, F3D and others.

Holy smokes, those are great shots! Thanks for posting, Craig.

Did anyone else notice the AM-1 Mauler in the first picture?

Gary

Yeah... I thought my eyes were deceiving me for a moment, but no... it is a Mauler... very cool.

Amazing photos by the way... thanks so much for posting them.

Cheers,
Richard
