Lt Col Arman Peterson of Flagstaff, AZ CO 78th FG by his P-47C "Flagari" shortly before he was KIA dogfighting with FW-190s on July 1, 1943.

Hi Jack, thanks for sharing this beautiful picture. However I'm wondering if this really is Col. Arman Peterson. I also have a picture of him and to me these are two different persons. Your thoughts?

Also, Peterson was not killed in the dogfight itself. He managed to bail out but his parachute was shot by a German soldier causing him to fall and break his neck.... The German soldier was sent to the Eastfront by his commander....

One of the members of our foundation (www.wo2go.nl) painted Peterson in his P-47 while escorting B-17's above our island Goeree-Overflakkee, the Netherlands (on which Peterson was KIA):

I still think it is Lt Col. Shannon Christian from the 353 FG .

Hit 351rd FS and about 1/3 down with his P-47D "Cookie" .

Well, whoever it is, he's not a Lt. Col... those are Major leaves on his right-hand collar. Might've been promoted later, but he's most definitely not a Lt. Col. in this shot.

Now I'm curious to see how this turns out... it's a great pic of a brave pilot, just need to pin down the name!
