Aviation themed jewelry

Does anyone have any ideas for aviation themed jewelery? Kind of in the form of a ring? I am open to any ideas.

Go see Jim Seip at "The Pilot's Cross" in one of the four exhibit halls at EAA AirVenture. He's a close personal friend of mine and a master goldsmith specializing in aviation themed jewelry. Tell him I sent you. He hand-crafts everything himself in his shop here in WI. He's doesn't have a store, just sells it by word of mouth and at Oshkosh, Reno, Sun 'n Fun and a handful of other aviation events. He's old school and doesn't have a website.

I agree...go see Jim at the Pilot's Cross. He is always at OSH in one of the four vendor buildings. He has made alot of jewelry for us. My two brothers and I all have radial engine rings with 7 cylinder engines, each slightly different. We all wear them as our wedding rings. My wife's wedding ring is her Waco RNF coming at you head-on. The diamond is the engine, there are actually flying wires between the wings and it had the outrigger landing gear. Pretty unique. She also has a necklace with a radial engine and a ground adjustable prop, biplane earrings, propeller earrings, and a biplane bracelet.

Yup, the Pilot's Cross is good stuff. Bought an item from them myself.

Of course, you could get creative and make your own. In 1997 (the first year Stu Dawson raced his Sea Fury at Reno) I got a huge chunk of piston ring that fell in the bucket when checking the oil screens after a race. It turns out the ring was left over from an old cylinder change, where they broke the rings, but nonetheless, it was cause for a few tense moments. Anyway, to shorten the story a bit.......Stu's wife, "A", saved it and had it turned into a necklace. She had three diamonds placed on it and a gold chain attached to the ends. It looks pretty cool and she only wears it to Reno, as a good luck charm now......which seems to work. :-)

So, use that ol' noodle of yours and do some asking around...I bet you can come up with a pretty clever ring idea before it's all said and done.

I've been looking for someone who can make a silver and gold belt buckle for me. Any other ideas. Other than going to Oshkosh, that is. That ain't gonna' happen.

Here's my contribution to the OP's topic albeit not a ring. I found this on Ebay and had a new clasp made for it (the original which is in these pictures was really showing its age). On Ebay under the military category use "sweetheart" as a search and you'll find some amazing stuff, and almost all of it vintage.

And yes, she loved it!

When I spoke to him at Chino a year ago, he mentioned that he makes stuff for the EAA. That said, I have seen advertisment in one of the EAA publications for his stuff. I'm fairly certainly the EAA could put you in touch without having to make the trip...

I can get you his number (Pilot's Cross). My guess is that a custom belt buckle would be $1000+. The radial engine rings we had made were around $800.
