I can see why ....

After much negotiating with Peter I was allowed to use a map and find our way back from Lydd to DX. "Go left at the Thames and take a right at the lakes." "Don't hit Stansted" was repeated like the phrase in the Shining. Boy there are lots of planes flying around the UK.

The Dover shots are phenomenal. Many, many thanks for sharing them.

Jim, the Brits don't trust Yanks to fly "alone" past Dover after a number of occasions where US military folks have caused some significant, shall we say, "disruptions" to London area civil traffic because of where they've flown.

Of course, it wasn't my fault....can't prove anything.

Thanks for sharing those great photos Jim. Like you say, it's cool to see them in color when we're so used to only seeing the war in (mostly) black and white. 8) 8)

[quote="Jim Beasley"]Here are a few I took on Thursday on the way to Lydd to grab a few photos with John Dibbs by these white cliffs that look like those at Dover. There was this neat lighthouse that added to the cool factor, especially when raging past it at 50'.

We were led to Lydd by our friend Peter in his Mk. IX. Can't trust the yanks to not overfly Stansted ....quote]

Jim, thanks for sharing your personal shots of flying down there, most of us can only dream of doing such things! (though i've flown past that spot many times - just not in a P-51! )

Eastbourne and the cliffs at Beachy Head were used as a visual reference point by many a returning aircrew, british and american not to mention the Luftwaffe during the war! Unfortunately these days its more well known for its suicide spot (they even have a watch group set up)

Great shots with a very appropriate backdrop and thanks again for a fantastic display on the weekend! :D
