Warbird Information Exchange

Heard the unmistakable sound of a Merlin this afternoon, and went outside to see a P-51 on approach (our house is right under the downwind leg for the local airport.) I couldn't make out the markings against the overcast, but it appeared to be a bluenoser. Probably "Excalibur" in town for the Heritage Flight in this weekend's Air Show (the T-birds will probably be tearing off our shingles Wednesday or Thursday.)

Had a Chinook fly over where I work in League City about 7 times today, I always saw him flying south towards Galveston, never on a return trip.

It's an Army test CH47. He's been staging out of Ellington.

I saw a mustang this morning, N119H, leave out of Galveston heading to the far N.E.. I saw a B-17 and B-25 at EFD this morning.

Saw a flight of 6 Blackhawks and 4 Apaches at OSH a week ago (June 24). They just stopped by, toured the museum, and were off on their way again. Was pretty danged cool to see 10 helicopters take off all at the same time. Pitcairn autogiro flew in later that same evening.

Aw man! I saw the Chinook yesterday, and the B-25 and B-17 this morning, but missed the Mustang. I need to pay attention!

On Tuesday June 30, I saw a flight of three Pilatus PC-7 of the Fuerza Aerea Mexicana. No, the FAM has not invaded north Texas. I was at the Iberostar Hotel on Cozumel at the time. . .

Anyone have any info on the T-28A and T-33 on display outside the gates of the FAM base on Cozumel? The Trojan's been there for MANY years; I photographed it from a distance about 15 years ago, but I can't find the photo. I recall it being painted in dark camouflage "back in the day", but when I saw it this week (from a long distance) it appeared to have been repainted in a silvery finish now. A fellow hotel guest mentioned that there are three airplanes on display there. What's the third one? I didn't see it. The base is interesting. There are usually no active airplanes there! (or at least I've seldom seen any on my numerous trips to the island over the years).

B-17 (I assume Thunderbird) over League City headed NNW @ 10:32 and at 12:21 heading SSE back towards Galveston.

The T-birds blew into town this afternoon for this weekend's airshow. They always beat up the town to let everyone know they've arrived. We live about a mile from the airport, and I took these from my front porch. I'll get lots more (and better) pics this weekend.

Last weekend at the National Waco Club 50th anniv. fly -in Dick Jackson from up New England way flew down in his ultra rare Waco warbird. Yes Waco did make warplanes other than CG-4A gliders
Dick's S3HD is a mean looking two place biplane. About ten or twelve were sold in Central America and two to Cuba. This is the prototype and the demonstrator that was flown to Cuba that resulted in the sale of two a/c to the new Batista govt. there. It was a new one on me. This thing has a commanding ramp presence.

Saw some sort of modified T-6 variant flying around yesterday. Unfortunately the sun was behind it so I couldn't get a look at the markings. Might have been the Tora 101 Zero that's supposed to be at Battle Creek this weekend.

T-28A and a Mustang.

Four AT6s, made at least five passes on the Apple Valley Mn. parade. Three passes formed up with smoke then peeled up and circled single file then formed up for one last pass. You just can't top the sound of multiple radials!! Hugh
