Warbird Information Exchange

The wife decided a road trip was in order, so we drove down to Louisville for a night last week. I used it as an excuse to go and see some airplanes. We did go to the Jeffersontown Veterans Park to see the UH-1 while we were in Louisville.

The return trip I decided to go by the Frankfurt airport to get pictures of the F-101. However it was not there. I asked around and found out it had been moved to the Aviation Museum of Kentucky at the Lexington airport. So....we went to the museum. (Mike - Aerial Visuals will not let me in, so can you do the update please?)

The museum is small but it has a lot in it. It is definitely worth the detour for a visit if you ever get close. Just a few pics, have not gotten to edit most of them yet....

The ground and hangar space at the Kentucky Aviation Museum in Lexington, KY is not big enough to hold one C-119.

IIRC, the fenced area has the F-14 and the F-4 shown plus now, the ex-Frankfort F-101. Last time I was in Lexington (March 2008) there was no C-119 there.

Ruud as Tulio said, it is a small museum. It is called the Aviation Museum of Kentucky and is located at the Lexington Blue Grass Airport. There are NO C-119s there. I suspect Walt has the location of the place you are looking for.

In addition to the F-4, F-14 and F-101 outside, they also have an AH-1 and there was an L-39 too. Not sure if it is a part of the museum though. Inside they have an A-4 in Blues colors, a T-38 in TBird colors, several gliders, a Waco, a Sellers Quadraplane replica, and a few others, though I am on a trip and will have to get home and get on the computer to remember what else.

Andy and Mike,have you updated your information on the F101 not being in Frankfurt any longer?

I have created the airframe dossiers for the F-4, F-14, F-101 and UH-1. If you don't mind, please feel free to navigate into those airframe dossiers (links to them at the bottom of the museum's location dossier) where you will find a link to allow you upload pictures. Pick your best shot of each showing markings, etc. BTW... Do you have any serial number information for the UH-1? Markings are a good start. I hope I am not being pushy here. Thanks in advance for any info or photos you can contribute.


If anyone has any photos of the F-101 while it was displayed at Frankfurt, or even during the move or when it was in serivice, it would be great to have those photos added to the database so it is available for viewing in the dossier. Just use the upload tool I mentioned above. Select your best shot and upload it. Thanks in advance for anything you can contribute.

Mike, just in from a trip and will try to get on again and send you a PM with the message. However, just wanted to clarify, the UH-1 in the pictures above is from the Jeffersontown Veterans Park (Louisville) already listed on your site, with the serial. At the Aviation Museum of Kentucky, they have an AH-1 that is sitting outside with the F-4, F-101 and F-14.

Mike, let me see if I have them scanned.

I was there in 2002, and as a result of my taking phtographs of the F-101, the airport manager reported an "arab" taking photos of military aircraft.... got a couple of calls from the Fibbers, and then my landlady told me that they came over and wanted to search my apartment... without a warrant....

Dave: Thanks for pointing out the errors. I "moved" the UH-1 to the veterans park and created an airframe dossier for the AH-1 at the museum. If you feel so inclined, feel free to upload a few photos.

Tulio: If you find that shots it would be great if you could upload one.
