Looks a little melodramatic sadly, but I'm hoping for the best. Band of Brothers was as good as it gets, so there is reason for hope.

Incidentally... did anyone check out this trailer, linked in YouTube to the HBO one? Not sure what it's for... a video game? Looks like a Japan-centric drama focusing on their invasions. The graphics/cinematography are pretty amazing though, if a little clunky in places.

Not sure how comfortable I am with it, but it was certainly interesting to watch.

Yes, a video game entitled "Batlestations: Pacific" and more specifically, the Japanese Campaign (like a lot of recent games, it apparently allows you to play either side).

i really hope that this series hasnt been hollywoodised.the idea looks great but after viewing the trailer i wonder just how corny it is going to be. no doubt the special effects and battle scenes will be great, but the fight the good fight tone of the trailer makes me a little suspicious. i'm certainly hoping for the best though. i guess we are going to have to wait for another year to find out

Remember, Trailers are designed to generate interest. They'll cut them differently and make all sorts of changes (including using scenes that don't make the final cut because they didn't fit the film). It's unfortunate, but I've seen too many movies where the trailer made the movie look good but it wasn't and vice-versa.

Hope it is good. The bar was raised very high by Band of Brothers. One thing that made BoB so special and, I think, accurate was that many of Easy Co men were still alive and able to contribute to the series via interviews, etc. Not sure if that is the case with the character's portrayed in " Pacific". We'll see ...

As I understand the series is based on 3 different stories. It follows John Basilone from Guadacanal to Iwo Jima. Eugene Sledge from his excellent book 'With the Old Breed'. And Robert Leckie and his book 'Helmet for My Pillow'.

.....and Sid Phillips, Eugene Sledge's best breiend. They went to
high school together in Mobile. Sledge is still with us, not sure
about Leckie.

they interviewed Henry (Hank) Boyes while making this. i really hope they have done this one right, i didn't meet him myself but a good friend of mine worked in his nursing home for a while and said he was an amazing man and a true gentleman.
