Today's the anniversary of the loss of R4D-8 N3906. She was leaving Ft. Lauderdale with 3200 pounds of granite
when the master rod bearing and partial nose case failures left the crew with only option of setting it down on a
city street, totaling the Gooney on June 13, 2005. No fatalities.

Correction, apparently there was a sale of most of the stuff at Lampson which included an HU-16 and a C-1A, was told the Super 3 is gone too.

We must limit politicians to two terms:
one in office and one in jail.

That one was an AMI Corp turbine (probably done by the the South African Air Force) converted standard DC-3...not a "Super" DC-3 as such.

Does anyone know what happened to the Lamp Lighter? I think it was a DC-3 that Mohawk used to fly?

This R4D-8 (Bu. No. 81715 N321L) has been at Santa Teresa (5T6) for several years. It had flown in the past along with a C-47, but has been idle for some time. The rumor is that the owner has some legal issues involving "imports".

It sure is Gary. War Eagles owns several of them. One is on display. One is in a long term restoration and the are several more on the late John McGuire's ranch.

Are you the Glenn Hyde who flew his Super DC-3 with Denny Ghiringelli in support of Hurricane Katrina survivors? Denny was our pilot on B-23 N747M and I was crew chief. Denny sent me a copy of the book "Angel Flight 44" about their exploits in flying relief supplies into Slidell, La. A great read.

The Carolinas Aviation Museum has a Piedmont Airlines DC-3 (not super) that is flown at airshows.

It's been at least 10 years, but a Super DC-3 once came into H&H Propeller Shop in Burlington, NC for overhaul of, you guessed it, both props. It was painted red, white, and blue - just like the one that has a half-second flash in the opening credits of USA Network's "Burn Notice" (For all I know, it's the same plane.)

At the time, I believe that the Super DC-3 belonged to Mosquito Control in Charleston, SC. When they delivered the Super DC-3 for the prop overhauls, they also flew in a VC-131 that was still in USN paint. It had a nice executive interior and had supposedly been the personal transport of some admiral. It also had a big cargo door in the left rear fuselage. While the SDC-3 was down for the prop overhauls, the crews pulled off all of its flight controls, packed them up in the VC-131, and took them home to be recovered at the same time. It was amazing how big the ailerons and rudder were.
