Anyone have info as to how the restoration of the He 219's wings are coming along?

This is from Scott Willey (who worked at NASM) when I asked him about the wings last April:

"my last conversations with a couple of the guys lead me to believe it's not going to happen until at least next year. I really think it may wait until the new restoration building at UHC opens in 2011. There is a lot of construction to be done in that area, and the big effort at Garber right now is to finish up the aircraft that are being worked on as they redo the Pioneers Gallery downtown. There may be one guy left working on the 219 wing, but I'm not even sure of that. Bottom line: don't get the camera out right away."

I was there in the middle of May and the wing and one engine was being worked on. The engine was about done and the other engine and Fuselage were already at the Udvar-Hazy Museum at Dulles. It looked to me that the wing was close to painting.

Absolutely! I've been waiting for that one for a long time.

I also think it's time for the Fw 190D-9 to be redone to a higher standard. Now would be a great time since so much work has been put into restoring other Fw190s such as the D-13, White 1, and Paul Allen's Fw190. Sourcing missing parts would be much easier at this time.

The Horten would be very exciting to see as well.

Once the restoration building is up hopefully the pace of restorations will pick up also.

Is Scott still doing volunteer work at Garber? The above message suggests that his work there is finished.

Any word that the 190D-9 might be coming back to NASM for display at Udvar Hazy? It would really make a great display to see the FW.190F, 190 Dora and Ta.152 together.

Scott e-mailed awhile back to say he was no longer associated w/ the NASM. No reason was given.
