I've landed at Matagorda Peninsula (Pierce) many times over the years. The most dangerous part was walking from the airport area to the beach...it was crawling with rattlesnakes.

The last time I went down there was about 4 years ago. The beach had really gotten trashed up with garbage - it was disgusting, actually. Not sure if it was from fishermen and "residents" or if a garbage barge had capsized and washed its load ashore. It was that bad.

There also used to be wreckage of what I think was a T-2. I don't think it was the T-28 as it looked like it had been a high-speed crash.

Unfortunately no photos that I could put my hands on. And just to clarify, I was referring to Matagorda "Club" not Matagorda Peninsula...according the Little Known Airfields site Matagorda Club is what is now marked as Pierce.
