Anyone have information on the Hawker Typhoon tested/evaluated in the US?

Funny thing. As I understand the airframe involved was at Freeman Field IN, and it is now at the RAF museum in England.

While excavating at the former AAF at Seymour IN we dug up a Harrison radiator among mostly German aircraft parts. I was stumped, I could not understand why the Germans would use any American made radiator in one of their planes and I could not think of any US airframe that could use that bizzar radiator. I have been told that the RAF example does not have a radiator! From my website there is a link to the Freeman Field site with photo.

Similarly the Mk VII Spitfire EN474, now at the Smithsonian.

Most ground shots of it in US evaluation show the gear doors are missing.

A rotted out gear door was found found on an excavation, about 15 years ago from memory. I thought Freeman but it was a long time ago.

A pattern door was supplied from the UK via Connie Edwards back in the 1970's. :)

You are correct the gear fairings are currently hanging from the wall marked as MkVII Spitfire landing gear covers, the Typhoon's radiator is on display as well.

I found the pictures of MN235 at the National Archives. They are dated 7-6-44, there is no other information on them.

Found these which may answer some of your questions.

WOW Mike, those aircraft history PDF.s sure beat the pants off of anything readily available from the USAFM. Thanks a bunch to you and known to Google.
