that is the most blatant pissing away of taxpayer $$$$ i've seen. the heck with promoting recruiting..... all branches of the military including the reserves are exceeding recruitment quotas because there are no jobs & people have no where else to turn. the pentagon should be kicked in the keester for that waste of money!!!

UGH! In case I did not hate that car enough! Perhaps a few of the earliest models I can tolerate, but what an overrated phenomenon, the Ford Mustang. Perhaps it is more enjoyable to ride in if you are under 5' 5".

I'm 6' 2", my bud is 6' 2" and our girlfriends at the time were both 5' 10" and we all had a miserable time fitting in his GT, especially if the leaky top was up.

Overrated? The Ford Mustang? One of Americas greatest cars? Up there with the '57 Chevy and the '32 coupe. I have a 1966, and love it. I am no small guy, and I am pretty comfortable in it, although the Charger has alot more room.

Just a personal opinion is all. I have always been a Corvette guy, these days I am more into European cars and designs from the first half of the Century, but none as much as aircraft.

Do the USAF recruiting guys really think a "cool" car is going to sway a young adult's career decisions? Maybe 30 years ago, but I think most of today's potential recruits have a bit more intelligence than that.

Yeah, I think it is a waste of money, but only a drop in the ocean based on my AF tour. How many times does the Wing CC and Base CC have dinner catered at their quarters, at AF expense? About 150 times a year. Ever stay in Visiting General's Quarters? It's a cross between a 5-star hotel and a bordello, complete with an A1C as a manservant. How many millions are spent maintaining AF golf courses? I'm sure many of us can add further examples.


I don't see the car as the problem, rather the symptom of a much larger problem.

As an active duty guy who was a pup when we were so broke you could not get a pin and typing paper was rationed the car's expense does not bother me. You are all correct the car alone will not make a single person join the AF and if it does , they should just keep walking to Army Recruiter office (LOL). The military is having a hard time recruiting currently (for obvious reasons) and with traditional recruiting avenues closed the branches are forced to rely on visibility, few things are as visible to a 17-20 year old than a hot car (like the Mustang or not) or an airplane. The recruiters can not go borrow and F-16 to drive down Anytown USA, so the car. These days its all about visibility.

tinbender, I could not agree with you more about the AF O-6-10 spending habits, a ridiculous banquet was being put on at the NMoUSAF while I visited last week, one that no civilians or foreign dignitaries were going to be in attendance and by the looks of things I bet it cost over 10K to cater. As a tax payer I was sick, as AD USAF member I was embarrassed.

Would this not be thrown with USAF Museum "Foundation" funds? Separate entity from the museum itself and not supported by taxpayers money IIRC.

Could very well have been, however that is not what the volunteers told me was going on. In that case I am only upset at the lavishness of the event as a member!
