I don't think this is a Warbird...just painted kinda like one...

Best guess is that it was taken somewhere in North Texas @ 20 years ago...

Gary is this like the frame you have???

Thanks for any help!

Don't know what that thing is, Zane, but it's not the same as mine.

The one I have here was based on OH-58 (Jet Ranger) parts. The engine, transmission, rotor blades, etc. were already taken off when I got the thing. However, it still retains the vertical fin, tail boom, and skids from the OH-58, so maybe some museum could use them or something. I'd love to find a picture of it when it flew (supposedly, only once). The N number was N2056B, which has since been reassigned.

HA! That's the weirdest thing.......I heard a helicopter, but saw nothing. Well....nothing but a hideous freakin' tramp-stamp that said CAF...but no helicopter. Must've been a stealth.

It is the French Djinn made by SO (in the 1950s). The US military had some for trials. It expelled air from the rotor tips so didn't need a tail rotor. A number were used as crop-sprayers on this side of the pond.

Interesting indeed. Seeing how I'm too lazy to perform a Google search right now, do you (or anyone else) have pictures of a flying one they could post? How did the rotors "expel air" from the rotor tips?

They don't call it the "Ghost" squadron without reason, eh?

Thanks!

That's a funky little machine.

Now I wonder what the ID was of this machine....the plot thickens!

Too late for the answer to be useful, but here are some images of the Djinn.

Several saw service in Latin America.

For more on 'cold cycle' rotor thrust, GOOGLE MONTE-COPTER. monte Copter was the local shyster fund raising scam in aviation around Seattle for nearly 25 years, it was always 'just about ready to fly'. Lots of folks in the long time aviation community around the Seattle area still have shoe boxes full of worthless stock certificates from MC. It even appears for a couple of years in the early 60's in JANES
