2009 “WARBIRDS IN REVIEW”

1 pm: Gunther Rall w/ ME-109E & Hispano 109 (owners: Russell Aviation Group & Cavanaugh Flight Museum)

Does this mean they're trucking the Cananaugh Buchon in, or are they planning to start flying it again?

I heard that one or the other will be assembled on Aeroshell Square during the week - this is probably the Buchon. Doesn't mean it won't fly for sure but it sounds like it will arrive by ground anyway.

I sure hope the Emil flies - a real Daimler-engined -109 will be a new entry on my life list.

I've not seen any word on modern birds yet, for example, does anybody know if the F-22 will be returning this year?

This should help you keep track of any F-22 displays:

The thread that simply refuses to die (or perhaps the poster who simply refuses to take a hint  ) ...

47 days and counting to the planet's largest annual gathering of warbirds and WIXers.

Unverified rumor concerning the Cavanaugh Buchon is that it may be arriving via Caribou. Again, I say unverified rumor; but if it comes true just remember you read it here first.

One way to heighten any airshow experience is to arrive via radial-powered old iron. The Michigander pilgrims already know about the sweet deal from Yankee Air Museum: Day trips to Airventure via their C-47 Yankee Doodle Dandy. For details:

http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/historic ... trips.html

WIXers swept up in the recent "I-miss-Bill-Greenwood" thread are reminded that group hugs with Bill will be available throughout the week. One devilled egg and an import beer per participant required.

Image

Important questions remaining unanswered would include:

Will the Russell Me-109E attend in some fashion?

Will El Presidente Rose and Secretary of Libation Keough finally make an appearance at the planet's largest annual gathering of warbirds and WIXers?

Will Eric Downing attend, not for the Poberezny's, but simply to receive the adoration of tens of thousands of chics who dig Able Dogs?

Responses to anything previously-typed, as well as the latest rumors, lies, and tall tales of anyone or anything Oshkosh-bound, are all welcome.

I wish I could afford to go. Sounds like there will be a very special L-bird contingent this year...

In these situations, Ryan, old farts like me usually resort to analogies.

Deciding to attend OSH is kind of like deciding to have children: If all couples ever did was think about how much it was going to cost, the conception/birth rate would go to zero. But once that first munchkin is born, you can't begin to imagine what your life would be like without him/her.

And so it is with OSH. If you've never been, you can't begin to imagine what it's like. Once you've been, you'll wonder what took you so long.

And if money's the issue: Well, lots of wealthy, lady pilots walk the flightline as well. OSH could be the happy hunting grounds for a young buck such as yourself. And then you'd just have to return for every anniversary. Or do like Zack and make big $$ working for EAA.

I agree. Once you have been there, nothing else even compares.

Understood on all points (thought the point about going to look for well, um... it's lost on me.) however, if I was going to go I'd really want to fly up there in an L-5 with a certain other L-5 and that's NOT happening this year.

Good news. Word on the street is that Russell reps have informed EAA that they are planning repairs on the Me-109E and still planning to attend Airventure.

I had some downtime and threw this together. Sorry that I am in a bunch of them, but most of them are from my camera. A little trailer for Oshkosh if you will.

Chris, all I can say is that I hope you and Bear appreciate having Zack, Jay, and me as chaperons while you two kids sow your wild oats!

Cool video! Just for the record, the shot of me chugging from the bottle of Jack wasn't at AirVenture but it was still part of my Oshkosh trip :partyman:
