Just as I was about to start reading an article on the Internet about D-Day I hear the unmistakable sound of a Merlin coming towards my place. I jump up from the computer, slide my screen door open and hurdle over the hop plant I have too close to the door to see a P-51 flying over head towards the Charles M. Schulz, Sonoma County Airport. I see this quite frequently as Lady Jo, and Speedball Alice are based at that airport. As many times as they fly over I still jump up from whatever I am doing and head outside. One of these days I may break some bones just to get a look. It would be worth it.

Heard, but didn't see, an entire gaggle of T6's from the VNY's based Cockroach Squadron take off this morning

Got these two T-6s breaking to land at Maxwell AFB this afternoon. We were just leaving the Archives when they landed. Don't know why they were here, but it was neat to see WWII machines at an important wartime airfield.

Today's sighting: a super-shiny, all-polished-metal, Nanchang CJ-6A zooming very low over Lake Lewisville, eastbound, just before 0800 CDT. I was crossing the lake on the IH-35E bridge, southbound, as the pilot popped up to perhaps 200 feet to fly over the highway, then dropped back down to considerably less than that on the other side of the bridge. Neato!

Cheers,

I saw a F4F, P-47, P-51, B-52, and a Blackhawk fly. I was at the Wings of Indy Air Show.

I heard the Pts and L 4s, but didn't see them.

I think my favorite one this weekend was Matt Gunsch's Wildcat. I have a soft spot for these little birds anyhow, but his FM-2 is an extremely beautiful example, and is clean and shiny inside and out.

He's a nice fellow, too. PJ and I had a good long informative chat with him, and just ate it up with a spoon. He flies a nice routine that shows off the Wildcat very well.

I saw "Psycho" out at Willow Run shaking down the MiG-17 before heading to Indianapolis. Anyone know if he made it down there?
