What's the word on the Nanchang with the Hoffman prop? It must have a bigger engine too. The Russian M 14 version? Is the canopy different too? Where can I get one?

Looks to me like they installed a Sukhoi firewall forward and modified the cowlings to fit the CJ. That's interesting. I did an M-14P installation on a CJ-6 once and it actually went pretty well. The stock cowling worked great, so I wonder why these folks went the Sukhoi route? It's cool lookin' though.

I never realized the B-17's flaps slid back like that..I thought they simply hinged down.

Probably the best shot of a B-17's underside that I've seen. Sharp, enough bounced light to actually see detail! Is the square two door panel forward of the ball turret doors for the camera bay? I've never seen detail on just how that works. Do any forts have that in operating condition today?

That's what those doors are for on the B-29, so assuming it's a "typical" Boeing design, I'd say that's a great guess. I've never noticed those on a B-17 either, so good eye!

Yes, those are the strike camera doors.

I noticed that Aluminum Overcast is missing the navigator's astrodome just like Chuckie.

Just a quick confirmation and a couple of photos of the strike camera doors. I crawled under Chuckie's fuselage today and found the camera bay doors had been replaced with this simple one-piece door. The smaller patch on the right side of the photo will be removed and a viewfinder door installed. You can see that door on the belly shot of Aluminum Overcast.

I was in the parts room looking for something else when I noticed these two little panels on a shelf. Sure enough, they are the original doors for that orifice, and it looks like at least the upper one is NOS.
