Identification lights need.....identifying?

Fri May 22, 2009 2:08 am

Hi Guys, My project needs two of these. I've been told they are grimes formation lights, but these two I photographed have no AN/NAF/MS or grimes markings on them they are the same size as the starndard Identification lights but the undersides are different and well the glass is blue!

Anyone able to help ID them? and secondly who might have a pair for sale!!!

Quite possibly...Those two pictured are CAC Boomerang. But the parts manual only lists our stock number and not the Grimes number. I did see a photo recently of a P-40E that had a similar light installed. But is of little help unless I have a spec number or part number to go by :(

If it will help, the 1944 Grimes list shows the basic formation light number as AN3030 with AN3030-1/ -4 for 13volts; AN3030-5/ -8 for 28volts. Lenses for both ratings were available in four colors likely indicated by the dash number. The blue lens dash is not specified nor are dimensional graphics provided. Subsequent dash no.’s may have occurred later in the war or immediate postwar period.

Both of these AN numbers used Grimes Drawing No. B2270 with flange A2345. -Adrian

Hi Lightning, I've got a set of the downward lights pictured on that website, but they are the wrong underside profile for the side mounted formation lights. IF i could get replacement blue glass with the ribs as in the pictures I posted and if the ones i'm searching are no longer available I'll use the identification lights. Depends on how much clearance between the side panels and other fixtures is compromised. I'm trying to go as authentic as possible hence the query. Thanks for the heads up :)

Cheers,
Chris

No Problem

Banaire does sell a lot more than is listed on their website

They also sell the different color lenses separately

now all I need is the flange A2345.....any leads as to where I could get this?

My rough googling has come up with these numbers
6220 00 211 3985 and AN872-1

Are these part numbers the same as the A2345? and would anyone have a photo of what one would look like?

Cheers all,
Chris
