Hi Ken,

I looked through your guide. It looks quite helpful for the first-time Airventure camper.

Users of your guide may wish to note a few changes, as some of your maps showing the grounds and nearby shopping will need to be updated.

Target Department store is still in the same location, but Walmart moved out of the old location several years ago (and is now located a couple miles farther north on the west side of I-41). Also, Pick n Save is located on the east side of Koeller Road.

The Main Gate area for Airventure, as well as the immediate roads and walkways inside, are being completely redone. You may wish to somehow link viewers to the following information from the EAA website:

The jet mounted in front of the museum is an F-86 (rather than an F-84 as stated). :wink:

And for travelers coming from the south on I-41, you encourage them to use the Exit 116 ramp, and then to turn around and head back south on Koeller and Poberezny Roads to get to Camp Scholler. Is there a reason why you don't use Exit 113 and just come north on Poberezny Road? If people arrive during the week of Airventure, the gridlock by Exit 116 can sometimes be pretty bad, yet I have never had any slowdowns driving up Poberezny Road from the south, whether heading for the campgrounds or day parking. I admit that one would miss out on that initial view of all the parked aircraft alongside 9/27 though.

My last little tidbit for the day would be that you either forgot or just didn't know about the best little meal deal at Airventure: The Sacred Heart food stand, located between the main gates and the bus circle...lower prices for breakfast and lunch than you'll find anywhere else on the grounds. Maybe check it out this July and rate it for next year's guide.

Too late to get a room?

I just heard that Jill Rutan-Hoffman's new book First Flights will be officially launched there.

I contributed a chapter about my experinces learning to fly a Bell 47.

It would be fun to go...I've never been and I'm not getting any younger.

Hi, thanks for the tips, I'll see if I can those into the airventure camping guide http://upaero.com/oshkosh.html this or next week.

I showed the 116 exit to keep it simple for the first timers and to give them the thrill of coming off the overpass ramp and seeing the 1000's of aircraft parked before them.

I'll add the note of exit 113, you are right about the grid lock.

...Hotels - I stayed in Stevens Point on one trip, 1.25 hour drive but worth it.

this may also help - call the hotels direct around the Appleton area, donot say you are coming for the airshow, say it is a business meeting or family wedding.

I have found hotels book off large blocks of rooms for special events but keep a few open for regular travellers, this has worked for me at other events a couple of times.

One is never too old to go to OSH, one year I went with a 68, 72 and 80 year old, I could barely keep up to them.

Time for an Airventure warbird update. This time we'll check on current CAF involvement:

In addition to the previously-announced intended attendants (Redtail P-51C and B-25 Yellow Rose)...

The SoCal Wing is planning to get two aircraft to OSH this summer. The current plan is to get the F6F as far east as Geneseo and then stop in Wisconsin for a while on her way home. The A6M is also scheduled to attend (as of now).

The Devil Dog bunch is also planning a return in '09.

And without a doubt the most regular CAF presence at OSH has been P-51D Gunfighter (I'm sure the largest annual gathering of Mustangs has something to do with that). Sounds like she'll be selling rides out of Fond du Lac most of the week.

Of course, the Wisconsin Wing will again be showing off their delightful PT-26.

As always, updates to this list are most welcome. Rumors, tall tales, and lies are also commonly accepted.
