It sure appears to be the base of an 88. Half of it's wheel carriage is about 10' back and to the left of that pic, you can see it in another pic, opposite end of the line of equipment from the Sherman.

For those of you who asked...the Flamingo Lounge story is in "Off Topics" under "Flamingo Lounge".
Enjoy.

Excellent eyes! It's the base of the 88 that they have over in the ground vehicles section.

I posted some pics that I took there back in '06-'07 on this thread...it's also got the sighting system for the 88 next to it. Or that's what the placard said.

I'm glad the D-Day Museum exists at all, but WTF are they doing with a Dauntless? What does that have to do with D-Day?

And what'd they do with the gear legs from the 109?

They are no longer just the D-Day Museum, now they are the
National WWII Museum. They've expanded their focus. The
Dauntless represents part of that expansion.

....can't help you with the landing gear question......

In December, 2001, they opened the Pacific Wing of the D-day Museum. It was described as covering all the D-Days in the Pacific campaign. Remember that there were more than just one D-Day during the war and that is why they expanded into the Pacific and now have made the name change to become more encompassing.
