G'day Steve N, there was a version with no lower wing and one with an even shorter wing than this. A number of aircraft of this era had a sesquiplane layout. It allowed shorter take off and landing runs and also better manouvrability due to a lower wing loading. The version of this aeroplane used in Vakmistrov's Zveno (Link) experiments had the shorter lower wing or none at all seeing they were air lauched from the TB-3 bomber.

Very nice work Ross.. A lot of detail for 1/72. I never knew the Russians had an entry in the all metal stressed skin design. Thanks for posting your pictures.
