Hmmm...Anyone heard our Governors speech in Fort Worth last week?

Yeah Z...but Perry knows better. The right to secede clause is fun to chat about as a segway to Texas being
formerly a nation, but it's a myth on several points. Since the legality of Mr. Lincoln's War was never challenged
in court then it's a given that no state can legally secede. 2nd point, in the court case of "Texas vs. White" in
1869, Texas got it's money back by admitting the the Texas govt. which voted for secession was illegal.
I can't remember exactly, but I vaguely remember during Mr. Perry's reign didn't the Texas legislature symbolicly
rescend the right to secede clause a few years back?
Historians speculate that the US never went on with the prosecution of Jefferson Davis for his treason charge
because the powers-that-be weren't sure they could win the case...showing the US had just fought a war they had no right to
proceed with. As ferverent a Pro-slavery fanatic as Davis was...he was just as ferverent a lover of the US Constittution...and
he had few peers who knew the Constitution as well as he did. Such is history..States rights are almost dead and Washington
is Daddy now..
Sorry if this is too off-topic. I was going to explain the nuance a few weeks ago in the CAF thread but
I lost computer access for 20 hrs and by then the anti-slavery folks were rattling their sabers getting the tar-and-feathers
ready..mods were twitterpated about refighting the civil war..blah..blah..blah..I just blew it off..
Long live the the Republic!
