Canada Aviation Museum - Thursday July 1st

Tue May 04, 2004 6:19 am

The Canada Aviation Museum has a fine collection of aircraft, including such rare aircraft as the Me-163, He-162, Bf-109F and they even have a Mosquito.

One of the best days to visit the museum is on Canada Day, July 1st. The museum often tows aircraft outside which makes for fantastic photo ops. There have been fly-bys in the past including aircraft from the Canadian Warplane Heritage and the Snowbirds.

This year a WIX meet will be hosted at the CAvM by myself, Mike Henniger. I may even be able to find a "special guest speaker/visitor" or something.

So far we have the following confirmed attendees...

Andrew Semon
Scott Rose
Olivier Lacombe
Steve Tournay
Eric Dumigan
Charles Dumaresq

If there is anyone else that will be attending from WIX, let us know here!

Mike

Yes I always manage to be at the Aviation Museum on Canada Day...I am always hopefully that the Liberator will be towed outdoors for a photo op but I am know that I am still dreaming...

Look forward to seeing the rest of the gang

I got a shot of their Liberator outside back in 1995. Now that I can get a decent scan of my negs and have good edittng software I'll trying taking the people and the annoying flag poles out of the shot. I'll put a copy up on Webshots when I am done.

I will park at the Rockliffe flying club if I come so the airplane won't get swarmed by anyone.

I might need a lift from the FC to the museum though.

And it all depends on if the boss let me go!

Hey Scott - or anyone - I'd love to come but I would like to cut down on the gas consumption... anyone up for a talkative New Hampsha'a riding along? Email me or reply to ryan@ryankeough.com.

I've never seen any of the Canadian collections... that INCLUDES CWH... for shame to me!

Olivier, When we flew up on the 1st a shuttle bus was available that drove us around the end of the runway and over to the museum. I imagine it will be in operation this year again as the fly-in is very popular.

Consider it a deal... I'll even provide you with a cell number for me to make sure I am going to meet you at the specified place at the specified time. I am guessing you'll be driving through NH anyhow, and my neck of the woods to boot so it won't be a diversion.

Are you planning to stay overnight up there as it is a 7 hr drive?

Probably going down the pike, but I can swing up to Nashua. I am planning on staying overnight. Was hoping to crash with someone or get a motel room. I've driven for 24 hours before but its no fun.

Scott,

My handy copy of Microsoft Mappoint (great software) says that I-93 North to I-89 into Vermont and that way is fastest... by the way, the 7 hours was at 65 mph which was the default... I adjusted to Masshole Sub-Sonic Speeds of 80 mph on the highway and it came up at 5 hours or so.

I can send you the map if you'd like... 89 is a nice drive.

I figured the same for the overnight... only makes sense to enjoy the museum for the better part of a day.

Cool, I hadn't throughly mapped it out yet, you can play navogator/tail gunner... err... i forgot, we're not going to Maine so we don't need a tail gunner.

Wow!

We'll have a nice line-up there! Can't wait to meet those crazy Yankees from New England!

Eric, the guy from the flying club told me about the bus rides. Just keep an eye out for the crazy Québec guy in a flying-suit!

Ollie,

I just hope customs confiscates any food they are trying to bring over the border. If this gets any bigger I may have to take the Friday off work and stay longer.

That's a good point.

And will they allow the food on the museum ground?

Word is : no food in C-FWOL!
