Hi everyone,



I am planning to buy a L-29 next year so I am doing some research right now on many different things. I would also like to take few transition courses, but i have found that in Canada these things just don't come easy.I used to live in UK, where i had a chance to fly few times on L-29 and their policy on puirchasing and registering these a/c is very straight forward somewhat similar to US,but it is not so up here in the big white North.

I live in Vancouver,BC, Canada and I have tried to get as much information from Transport Canada regarding qualifications and minimums for me to be able to do transition to a jet fighter with my licence, but they got confused when i asked them If i can import a jet trainer such as L-29 from US.

Does anyone knows anything about this issue or maybe had a similar case? I know there has to be certified aeroplane maintenance shop that has approved person who can undertake the maintenance,but again they were unsure if such thing even exists in Canada.

If such maintenece facility doesn't exist in Canada, can i use the facility in US and just fly down when necessary or do you think this might be too much hassle?

I know Canada and US have a free trade agreement meaning you don't pay any custom fees upon purchase?

If I purchase a L-29 in US and I am not an US citizen, but I would like to fly it in Canada registered under US registration would that be at all possible?

I would appreciate any answer and I am thanking kindly for any information.

Why not buy one in canada instead and save all the agro?

First off, I'd highly recommend calling it a trainer and not a fighter. That'll throw up all sorts of red flags if you ask me.

Good luck on your acquisition - I personally like the L-29 more so than the L-39 - has a certain classic style to it.

You might want to contact Brant Aero Brantford Ontario (CYFD) they handled Martin Mattes L29 .

One hurdle he faced was training Brant Aero’s chief mechanic, to a standard to which Transport Canada would be satisfied. He used Joe Morales, an experienced mechanic, to co-ordinate Brant Aero, Transport Canada and a US Aero L-29 mechanic to come to Canada for a training session.

Try Victoria Air Maitenance in Victoria, they have extensive experiance with both prop and jet waribirds and likely can answer all your questions.
