The Collins B-17G, B-24J and P-51C arrived at the War Eagles Air Museum in Santa Teresa, New Mexico for a three day stay before flying on to Tucson. A nice sunny day for shooting. Gee, I also posted these photos on ARC and Hyperscale. That does not count as some sort of spamming does it? :?

The guys in cammies in that last photo are German airman from Ft. Bliss. There has to be some irony there!

True! When the P-51 came in it was merely breezy, but the forcast was for the wind you got when you arrived. It was actually predicted to be worse and there was even concern that the 17 and 24 would have to land at El Paso International. Ah, West exas and southern New Mexico in the spring.

IIRC it was painted up for a commercial and carried the full AA markings for some time. I used to see it fly in and out of ELP on its way south to pick up auto parts, but it has been languishing at Santa Teresa for many years. About a year ago I saw he owner working on it but never-the-less there it still sits.

Love the colour scheme on 909. It is my favorite of all the B-17's. Oh to live in the US and have a flight!! One thing, the shade of OD looks different to others. Can anyone tell me why?

The real "909" was a war weary aircraft, and it's O.D. paint had faded to this color. When the restoration was done, it was decided to paint it in an over all color that represented what the war veteran looked like.
