CWH Lysander test flight plans

After many years of restoration, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Westland Lysander (C-GCWL) is tentatively scheduled to fly in June. Rob Erdos, Vintage Wings of Canada Hurricane pilot and National Research Council Test Pilot, has been invited to conduct the first flight and post-restoration test flight program. It is a good example of the cooperation and sharing of knowledge that exists between CWH and VWoC. Hopefully, the "Lizzie" will make its' first public flight debut at Flyfest on June 20 & 21 at CWH. A new paint scheme is being considered for the Lysander after it has flown a season or two in the current target tug paint scheme.

Funny, the Sabena Old Timer's Lysander would fly again also in 2009, here in Belgium. 2009 would seen an increase of 200% of the Flying Lysander

Make that 300%, as the Vintage Wings Lysander is expected to fly this year too!

Great news! I would vote to keep the target tug scheme though..it's very striking and unique, and fits well with the rest of the CWH aircraft (I always refer to the musuem as "the world's largest collection of yellow airplanes!)

Really looking forward to seeing it fly!

I remember way back in the early 90s seeing the Lizzie in Niagara Falls, NY being worked on. Restoration seemed to go really slow when it was in NY.

wow!!! talk about brought back from the dead!!! fabulous work. ......i've yet to see a lysander restoration with the little pylons on the wheel spats for little bombs, for light duty attack, used on clandestine operations. any restored with this rare feature??

The winglets were fitted for Army co-op and Air Sea Rescue, to carry the dinghy packs, but not on the Special Duties (agent) Lysanders. AFAIK, there's none in preservation with the spat winglets fitted.

It would be a pity to lose the historic TT scheme, but another natural scheme for a Canadian Lysander would be the oft-overlooked 110 or 112 Sqn RCAF machines which were sent to the UK in 1940.

It's my understanding the VWoC Lysander is to be done in either 110 or 112 Sqn RCAF machines as sent to the UK in 1940. The target tug yellow and black has been stripped off and currently having new skin put on.

How far along is the Boly ? I have not seen or heard an update in a good while.

UPDATE: This week, the Canadian Warplane Heritage's Lysander is receiving a complete final inspection before all the panels are reattached. The civil registration C-GCWL has also been applied. Next week, engine runs are expected to take place. On June 8, Rob Erdos (Vintage Wings of Canada) will arrive at CWH to make the first test flight sometime during that week. We will keep you posted as the day draws near.
