It was a van, I was in the waist of the B-17 and watched him do his ramp dive.
I was wondering why he was following us around all weekend. On that flight we were coming back from the overflight for the opening of the Spruce Goose display in Long Beach.

Hot, humid day at Syracuse and getting back into the golf cart my flight suit stuck on the little armrest and torn the whole butt out of my suit. I had nothing in reserve so I just went the rest of the show with my butt hanging out. :oops: :lol:

The girls didn't start t horwing dollar bills, so my guess is nobody ever noticed! :lol:

Not so funny is when at airshow and you loose a mate .............and EVERYONE in the crowd looks the same and you have no freaking idea where they went.....

The only good part of this deal was that I didn't do it.
At the Fresno B-25/Doolittle reunion Jim (our leader) got the the inspired idea to remove the overhead escape hatch and stand up behind Jeff & Wayne while hold up a moderate sized American flag while waving at folks has we taxied by. Everyone loved it and Jim had a blast. The problem was the every show the flag got bigger and Jim started waving it in stead of his hand :shock: By the time we did Arlington the flag was more suited for the mast of a battleship than our old bomber. At Arlington they use one runway has a taxiway and part of the airshow was the warbird parade where the warbirds after flying all taxing together in parade like fashion with all the spectators on both sides of the taxiway. It's very cool. Since they go small to big the B-25 is always last. So down the taxiway comes the B-25, Jim and that big *ss flag and he's really waving that sucker. I swear I saw it go throught the prop arc at least 3 times. Well 3 strikes and your out cus on #4 there was a very loud crack and the HS ripped the flag off the pole (the pole was bent over TG Jim didn't let go of it). I watch in silent horror has old glory rode that big prop for a pretty good spell before it was spat out straight down only to be run over by the big, oily right main tire. I'll never forget the look on Jim's face has the 25 taxied by :shock: I ran for the flag hoping to scoop it up before anyone noticed (good luck there :twisted: ) but was beat to it by a platoon of CAPers who refused to give it up even to my pleas of "give me the F-ing flag. Only to the owner their leader replied. Has I ran to warn Jim they came martching down in formation and in front of the 25 (at lots of people) they ritually folded the flag. Has the leader approached Jim to return HIS flag he leaded over to me and said "Kill me now".
That's the last time a flag ever flew from our B-25.
Now how's that a story instead of photos for post #9000 :shock:

Well Jack.....it could have been worse. This could have all happened during the heritage flight as the announcer is reading the poem...

Not necessarily my most embarrassing moment – but someone here may know of the event……

I was standing next to the flight-line at a Centennial Airshow near Denver in the ‘80’s when a B-25 taxies along side. The escape hatch was opened (part of the canopy and laid back in the open position) when the B-25 made a turn. Apparently the escape canopy on the B-25 is designed to fall off to the side for ease of egress. (you pilots may certainly know more about that) Well… when the B-25 turned to park the canopy flew off into the prop and blew “chunks” into all of those standing along the flight line. We were all peppered with Perspex and canopy frame pieces. Nobody was hurt – and I got a souvenir (frame piece that hit my leg) from the event. BUT – the FAA was in force in the next day roping off the whole area. So much so that you could hardly get close enough to take a photo!

Had to be embarrassing for the crew – which was from Wyoming if IIRC.

You pull the release push up and let it go (in fight). On the ground you generally lift it up, turn it and pull it in the a/c,

Last year at LSFM airshow I stood up into a prop blade after attaching a two bar. DING-DONG! whoa , who left that airplane there? Actually I think it was on Friday so only a boat load of fellow Lone Star people saw me.

hmm lets see here is some of mine....

1. Rockford airshow last year during the F-18 Hornet demo, i was told from a friend of mine there would be no pyro during the performance. So after the pilot completed his final high speed photo pass i started to walk back to put my camera back in the bag, then all of a sudden BOOM pyro goes off and i hit the deck just about everyone in the photo box and those surrounding it started laughing their ass off.
2. Quad City 2003 it was my first ever airshow i attended. So my parents and i where just sitting in our chairs just waiting for the action to start. Well the action started suddenly with 2 F-18s coming up from behind us in the sneak pass, so once again i hit the deck grabbing my chest for some odd reason.
3. Oshkosh 2005, i really don't know what i was thinking at the time but i was walking passed Liberty Belle and i ducked under the elevator and well i thought i cleared it so i raised my head up and hit part of it with my head, had a headache for a couple hours afterwards.

OSH, about '86 or '87. Davey Jones is patiently answering my questions while displaying his (then brand new) 80% scale Fw-190.

While I'm flapping my gums, he begins to nod and smile and basically look right past me. When I finally come up for air and turn around, there stands Adolf Galland, patiently waiting for the village idiot to shut up and move on so he can examine the 190 for himself.

One of my first airshows was at Muskegon in the early 90s. I was probably about 4 or 5 at the time. Anyway, the B-1 did a fly-by and lit the afterburner at show center and pulled into a steep climb. The noise from the afterburner kinda caught me by surprise and actually scared me so much that my tachycardia started acting up and we had to leave. That was pretty embarrassing. :oops:

Alconbury '90. 6 of us pulling the prop through on TFC's B25, 2 to a blade, 12 blades..
Except one person was still on 11 when everyone else was on 12...I was the unwitting recipient of a prop blade to the forehead & promptly bled like Old Faithful.
This was the day before the show & I just stuffed a rag covered in aeroshell & avgas into the wound. That stung a bit...

Then I see a nearby medic tent that happens to be in the middle of the flight line so I wander over there to get a bandage or something. I walk in covered in blood & the 4 or 5 guys in there go from lounging in chairs to panic mode. This strikes me as a bit odd, as does the total lack of anything remotely medical looking... lot of beer coolers tho..

It turned out some enterprising AF types had misappropriated the tent & set it up to garantee a good view of the airshow the next day. My unexpected arrival had kind of blown that idea & they stuck me in a car & drove me to the REAL medic tent at the end of the flight line..
Stephen Grey sees me later all bandaged up & upon hearing what happened said "Oh, you didn't bleed all over my aircraft did you?" LOL!
