Imperial War Museum Duxford 2007 Pictures

I was rumaging through my pictures on my computer and came across these from a trip I made to Duxford while in the U.K. on business a couple of years ago. I got there when the doors opened and they almost had to call security to get me to leave. I hope my hangars in heaven look like these!!!! I've never seen so many different Spitfires in one place at one time.

There's one picture of a corroded hulk in the corner behind some other aircraft - anyone got any idea what it is? Ready, set, GO! The clock is ticking to see who can come up with the answer first!!! LOL!!!

I also made a trip to Bruntingthorpe where Avro B.2 Vulcan XH558 has been restored to flying condition and is now trying to raise enough funds to keep her flying. I'll post those pictures too if anyone is interested.

Not in my area of expertise (what is?) but from the shape of the greenhouse, I'm gonna' guess something Japanese.

That? It's a Mitsubishi Zero wreck. Belongs, IIRC, to the IWM.

Now the engine, which I think is a DB, was new to me.

...the first time I saw Duxford my first thought was "I wonder how much they would charge me to let me work here"!

It's a Fairchild Bolingbroke, Canadian-built version of the Bristol Blenheim. Now being repaired and converted to short-nosed Blenheim I spec after a landing accident several years ago.

I beleive that is the Blenheim (Bolingbroke) which is currently being restored to airworthy and fitted with a mark1 nose (which had been converted into a car!!!)

And that's not a production break in the wing (which was built as one piece). You can see that it was cut right through the fuel tank.

You have several shots of the Mk XVIII Spitfire SM969 now with Jim Beasley. It is the Spit in primer with no engine but with wings on. The engine labeled Merlin is actually a Mk 65 Griffon for the Mk XVIII.
Cool shots though, I hope to get there some day to visit Achmed.
