What about Hoover's Ole' yeller?

How about the one in the Airforce Museum? Was that bird donated by a civilian or just flown in by the airforce?

The P-51 at the NMUSAF was the "last" one flown by the USAF. It did belong to the WV ANG..... So since I'm here in WV and know some of the people who were in the Guard back then, delivery of that P-51 to the USAFM was the last official flight of a USAF P-51. However it wasn't the last flight of one. Aparently there was some flying going on the day after delivery......
Before someone raises the issue there was the chase plane at the Aramament Museum, which IIRC was acquaired from Cavilier, while it flew in the late 60s, it was Army.

N2251D was his original one, this "Ole Yeller" is a replacement, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had a few owners before Rockwell purchased it.

Both of Hoover's Mustangs were Cavalier re-built airframes.
