Somehow a Bird in a Cage seems sad to me. :(

I agree, but a sadder commentary of our times. The alternative would probably involve vandalism or complete destruction.
Isn't Lone Jack fairly close to Whiteman AFB and isn't there a small Civil War cemetery nearby? It's only been 50 years.....

Tailspin,
Yep...there is a Civil War Confederate Cemetary there in town...a small museum...They hold a really large re-enactment of the battle that was fought there...I have been out of town the last 10 years during the event...one of these days I'll get to experience it!

I was born at Whiteman AFB, and yes it's not too far to the east of Lone Jack...

Do you know how Lone Jack got it's name?
Was named after the last Morman settler that lived in the area, after the others were ran out of Independence...

Another for the Gee Whiz Info Book...I have a few Morman friends that live outside their religion's boundries..they were always called Jack Mormans....turns out that the Jack Mormon tag derived from the exiled Mormons from Jackson County, Mo. (Independence, Mo)

That is a cool story. I love old history like that. I live in Ambridge, Pa. We always joke that the North and the South fought over Ambridge during the Civil War. The loser had to take Ambridge.

At one time I owned a commercial building in Lone Jack and never knew how it got the name.
