As many warbirds have changed owners over the years, I'm curious as to what P-51 has had the fewest number of civilian owners since put up for sale or disposal by the government.

The one(s) of W. C. Edwards. He bought them from the Guatamalan Air force.

That would have to be the RAAF Museum's A68-170, CAC was the manufacturer, then straight to the RAAF, and after a short flying career was largely mothballed and placed into storage, then RAAF Museum static display and ground running, then restoration to fly.

All in all a "low milage, only one owner, only driven to airshows and interactives on Sunday." example.

regards

Mark Pilkington

How about Clay Lacey's (sp?) #64?
Or, Kermit Weeks' NX1202. 3 owners...U.S. Army, Paul Mantz and then Kermit.

I got all excited as I started a search of the FAA data base. There are some Airworthiness Certificates dated into the late 1950s. But that only means that the FAA has not had cause to revoke the certificate. The Registration Certificate denotes ownership and the earliest I found was 1973.

44-74602 has had the same owner since 1967; though it had a couple of other owners since the airworthiness cert. was issued in '62.
